First goal completed!

04 Jan

I’ve read the first draft of Mystery in Morocco – at least as much of it as there is. I feel excited by it. The first third is good and introduces the characters gradually. I found the last third so exciting that I just had to finish reading a chapter before I went to sleep…even though I know the story because I wrote it 😀 The middle must go because nothing happens.

Today I’ve spent:

2 hours on my short story (4 scenes revised).

1.5 hours on Mystery in Morocco

I found a folder with Holly Lisle’s Create a Character Clinic – had forgotten all about starting this with my Mystery in Morocco characters! It’s reminding me about my characters and I’m making changes in line with changes needed to the story.

Have also done 1 hour’s exercise and some housework but now, as it’s nearly 5pm I’m feeling totally whacked and I need a break 🙂

I hope you’ve all done something towards your projects, whatever they are.

Hi Ramble! Good to see you again.
Thanks, it feels good to be writing again. You keep writing too!

That’s great! I’ve been looking through some of Holly’s clinics as well until I’m able to plunge into the revision process again. It’s great to be working towards a project you love even though it fries your brain at the time with the amount of overhaul it needs!

Brain-frying is certainly what happens! But it’s all good. Have a good writing year findingmycreature!

The Character Clinic was a big help in my revision! I did some huge hunks of writing responding to some of the questions, and was able to use a lot of that writing to shape even the minor characters into people I felt like I had spent some time with. And it’s nice to know that I can go back for more if my characters start giving me trouble.

I’m afraid I’ve stalled a bit on my scene edits for lesson eighteen. Waiting for critiques to come in on my first chapter has me chewing my nails with anticipation! 😉

The Character Clinic is good, isn’t it? How could I forget about it? 😀
It’s a big deal letting others see your words – at least, I found it to be. One can feel naked and vulnerable. Good luck. I hope you get insightful comments which you can use.
