Let the Good Ideas Roll!

02 May

I’m still ploughing through Lesson 2 of HTRYN – Promises, Promises. I found most of them during the first pass through HTRYN. Having cleared out much dying, dead and rotting wood, sorry — words — the rest of the Promises are reasonably easy to pick out.

What has really pleased me this afternoon is the return of my Muse. Something to do with getting rid of a particularly nasty bug I’ve had for a week, which stopped me thinking (and stopped me doing prettty well everything else too!). It’s hard work trying to write with half of the partnership missing!

I thought I’d share my latest triumph! I’ve found how to end the novel in a neat way. The baddie gets killed. (Yesssss! This is so satisfying).

But I’ve worked out how to bring him back in the next book. Yay! 😀

Most of the writing needs rewriting but the main structure of the novel is there now. It’s not polished and shining yet but there is shape and form to it, instead of being a large tangled mass. The spy thriller that crept in has been pulled out, and so has the murder mystery. The only thing that might be needed is another sub-plot. But that’s for another another day and another lesson.

I ended up in tears reading the chapter where the heroine meets her husband she hasn’t seen for three years. The reunion doesn’t work out too well. There are some shocks in store for her — as well as shocks for the reader. But having got through that, her reward is not far off. And that isn’t quite what the reader might expect either 🙂

It still makes me cry though — and other places make me laugh — so if the reader is similary affected I will have done a Good Job 🙂

I’m so excited for you! I love the kind of ending you described. It keeps the reader entranced, hoping for the best, and suprised at the twists and turns.

Sometimes, when you’re not concentrating on the plot, inspiration just appears. It’s so wonderful when that happens.

Don’t you just love it when it all comes together like that? I’ve just had a similar moment, writing the sequel to my children’s book, so I know how it feels.

    Good luck with it, Prue.

It is those moments, when your own words make your laugh, and cry, that make this so worthwhile.
Congrats on getting the overall structure laid out. That’s huge. 🙂
It’s great to read about the progress, and also that you’re feeling better!

      Thanks Kirsten.
Yes, getting the structure sorted is major. I had a sort of mental glimpse of the finished book yesterday. It was brief but I really got the sense of the finished product. Woohoo! 😀
Slow progress is still progress – and it is good 🙂
